"To Kill a Poet is a collection of poems, each unique and exquisite in craftsmanship. This sheaf, gives you a glimpse of a multidimensional soul, strong and passionate, seeking beauty and truth, constantly.

The poet is a wordsmith who challenges the boundaries of grammar. There is lyricism and sensuality. “Will Some Body With Me Not Dally” and “Body Feels Gold” overwhelm you with their power and leave you breathless.

Sardonic humour in the pithy lines of the “Buffalo” poems punch hard at the social malaise.

The title poem “To Kill A Poet” shakes you up. What happens when there is no freedom of thought?

Now go on a train ride on “En route Ahmedabad to Nabipur” and see what the floods do, also to “A Butterfly Rare”.

But there is heaven on Earth too. “Dulia, Rain Morn”, “Rain, God in Parts” or “Rained Night, I Drink.”

A feel of Science, Discovery? “Eyes Open Tortoise” and “Experimenting Why So?” take you on the quest.

There is more in these pages. The quest is never ending!

Watch out for new words, coined to suit the need."

To Kill a Poet A Collection of Poems Shanta Jayaram Books Reviews

Bought this book for my friend who is a big time critic. .and guess what she was absolutely impressed by this book..so it must be really really good...great work by the author...
Each poem is a unique ode on its own. Such brilliant use of wordplay and lyricism. The title poem is a stunner! Definitely recommended to poetry lovers. Such an amazing find after a long time.
Each poem is a poignant epiphany on its own. The emotions they exude as we read is simply brilliant and shows the poet's craftsmanship. Each titling of the poem is apt and perfect. A total must have for poetry lovers!
Fine set of poetry woven together in one collection for those from different walks of life to relate with. The life and soul of the poet can be read through the lines of the poetry. A great collection worth reading!
This was a great book filled with emotion! Many of the poems made me think about the choices in life more and made me want to keep rereading it. I recommend this book to anyone that loves poetry.
This is a new star on the horizon of English poetry and literature. This book restores the place of Poetry as a powerful medium of expression. The author mesmerises with her three dimensional descriptions both on the microcosmic and maccroscopic viewpoints of life.
Really delightful. A must read
Thirty four poems, held warmly together in a ‘sheaf’ of seventy five pages, draw you by their sheer beauty ,truth and range. There are poems that span a broad spectrum of emotions. One feels romantic and beautiful when you read poems such as “Dulia, Rain Morn” , or “Rained Night, I drink”, where the style of writing is akin to Urdu Shaayari . Also, there are other poems that have you utterly enraged, when you read “Aggression”. Here, what is apparent is a clear description of the Aggressor and the Aggressed. But, that’s not (in fact) what leaves you feeling appalled; the poet moulds your thoughts to understand why the aggressor chooses or stoops to aggressing. Now, that’s the masterstroke, that leaves you reflecting and thinking about where and/or at whom your finger should point, if you’re into playing blame-game, at all.
There are metaphors galore, drawn copiously from the indian cultural context, the language swerves from ordinary usage to convey an enhanced sense of reality . The glossary is useful to get a better sense of some of the metaphors used. The poet’s impartial love for all five senses of the body is particularly attractive, that helps one re-imagine and perceive what is within and around oneself, very differently.
FIVE FULL STARS for this collection.
